Willow & Justin (Sneak Preview)

We can’t hold back any longer! Here’s a small glimpse of our most recent shoot featuring some of Missoula’s best wedding vendors. It’s a styled shoot with real heart: before Willow and Justin travel to celebrate a tropical wedding next February, they had a chance to represent their love taking flight in Missoula.

Flight! If you’re doing it right, a love story partakes of the same constellation of emotions that accompany flying. We’ve long wanted to portray some of that with a shoot and were lucky enough that a real couple was ready to take part. Behind the scenes, the story of this shoot was of getting to partner creatively with one of our recent brides: Brittany Newman of Soiree Ninety Nine Events. It was she who cast the lovebirds, created most of the decorations, and coordinated so much more. You should be giddy with the possibilities of planning a wedding, no matter your budget. You should have a voice on the other end of a late-night phone call who leaves you in no doubt that she gets it, knows where to get more, has six in her garage. You should be so lucky as to have the kind of partner in planning an event as we did.

Have a peek at what we put together! See: the video.

We began the day, as we do so many weddings, with Janae Naab. We shared our theme with Janae and she gave us a style ready for wind, just enough loose pieces to catch the breeze without falling apart.

Janae demos an updo.

Janae Naab is generous with her hard-won experience. Here she passes along up-do tips.

Thank you for being the picture of professionalism and generosity in all the years we’ve worked together!

Now for a thrill. When Tom Cruise is wooing, there’s a reason he likes to charter private sight-seeing flights. The excitement of speed, the promise of escape, a flight for two is pure romance. When you place a real couple on the tarmac, it’s magic.

We love this creative boutonniere from Earth Within.

It was also windy. But Willow and Justin took to our direction with ease.

Even acrophobics wouldn’t refuse this ticket, designed by Hey Tayler.

We were so lucky that Velvet Bride lent us these matching bridesmaid dresses. It’s only appropriate, since Sarah and Brynn are actual besties of the bride.

Happy wedding party.

Table setting for flight-themed wedding.

Soiree Ninety Nine’s place setting takes off from a bronze base. The napkin indicates the flight path.

We wanted to balance the two aspects of flight, natural and mechanical. Here at the table, Brittany delivers by marrying metallic and feathers. She has used vintage mismatched china from Oh So Chic.

The impetus for this shoot was Ashlie and Ryan’s invitation to investigate their labor of love in Alberton. White Raven is a venue that offers so many spaces to serve as canvas for an event that even our full set of photos can’t capture them all. We can’t wait to go back. (In fact, we’ve already visited again to capture more video! The dark dramatic rock and mountain landscape are too stunning.)

Venue interior.

High ceilings, radiant floor heat, unremitting elegance: White Raven has thought of everything.

Cake table and decoration for a flight-themed wedding.

Atop Oh So Chic’s vintage trunks, Brittany from Soiree Ninety Nine adds whimsy and verve.

Sitting down to collaborate with Lisa at Black Cat was an instant creative brain-link for Tom. At the first words out of his mouth, she was already sketching. She employed an edible sugar paper to create the feathers and roses.

Uplift in icing: the wedding cake by Lisa at Black Cat.

The result, with svelte form and an offset top layer, expresses our theme directly, gracefully. Pinwheels nod at the whimsy of our idea without being precious. Really brilliant.
